Giant pandas are massive animals that can reach the height of 4-5 feet tall. Additionally, they can weigh up to 300 pounds. Giant pandas live in the mixed forests in the high mountains of southwest China. Giant panda's livespan is approximately 20 years. Giant pandas have one of the most unique diets of the animal world. Their diet consists of mostly bamboo which according to Oxford dictionary is "A giant woody grass that grows chiefly in the tropics, where it is widely cultivated". Bamboo takes up 99% of the giant pandas diet. Bamboo has very low nutritional value, therefore giant pandas have to eat around 26-84 pounds of bamboo per day. That means giant pandas eat up to a ton of bamboo per month and a whopping 5-15 tons of bamboo per year. Their status in the wild is a level 4 which is considered vulnerable according to the IUCN or The International Union fo Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species. Therefore they are considered endangered species, but the giant pandas current population trend is increasing which is good. In the end, there are many organizations trying to help the giant pandas get out of endangerment, but only few are actually succeeding.
